[Pro/Engineer Notes] I have been learning Pro/E to have some basic skills in opto-mechanical assemblies for head worn displays.

Pro/Engineer is a very useful solid modeling tool.

Here is my "hello world" assembly:

The assembly consists of a bracket, bushing, ring, crank and a gear. The teeth on the gear was an exercise on
patterning. Pro/E can copy a master pattern across the part parametrically (i.e., one can change the angular
increment that will be applied to copying the reference, as well as the number of copies).

Here are two examples of blending cross-sections:

Caster:

The caster is composed of two brackets, bolts, shaft and a wheel.
The cut in the wheel in the wheel can be done with a pattern. I did this by copying a saved section
for the initial cut and loading this section back into the sketcher using sketch->data from file
and then rotating it to the desired angles. A pattern would have been more elegant.

Wrench:

The wrench was an exercise on variable section blends.

Head Worn Display

Here is a head mounted display model. The lens depicted is a simple doublet designed in code-v and
imported as an IGES file into Pro/E. The raytrace associated with the lens is also performed in code-V,
therefore, it is a correct raytrace. The face is a 3d laser scan from a military database (CARD). Thanks
to Adam Oranchak for help with RapidForm for cleaning up the face. This is just an exercise in modeling,
please do not take it seriously :) Although, in the future, I do hope to design meaningful assemblies.

Another Head Worn Display

As you can notice, this HMD has the optics mounted from the top (wrt to the wearers eye).
This will provide more access to the peripheral vision as
compared with the side mounted optics. There is a mechanism for inter-pupilary
distance adjustment. The original design was done by Minoo Bablani at NVIS inc.Based on Minoo's model and design, I did this model in Pro/e as an exercise.
